Mural / Community Gardens Program

To demonstrate the arts positive benefits toward the revitalization of inner-city neighborhoods, Perkins Center has constructed permanent community murals in Camden since 1995. Our Mural Program successfully brings together community advocacy groups, neighborhood youth, and professional muralists for discussions/collaborations on the mural's theme, project planning, apprenticeship opportunities, and the actual construction and public dedication ceremonies. In 2006-2008 Perkins Center expanded the Mural Program to include Community Garden settings and our first project was completed in 2008 at Baldwin's Run in east Camden. Both mural and community garden projects are designed to generate community interest, involvement, and ultimately, pride.
