Graphic Novels
For Ages 10 - 16
Do you enjoy drawing your own comic characters? How would you like to make them come to life in a story that you create? Now is your chance to learn the methods of sequential art combining words (what the characters say) with pictures (showing what they do) to effectively tell your story. Students will start off with a series of individual and group exercises- action to action, moment to moment, and scene to scene- that will help guide them through the process of conceptualizing and developing their ideas. Next, thumbnail sketches of page ideas accompanied by a script will be developed and refined giving the story greater clarity and impact. The final result will be an original graphic novel featuring superheroes, manga, cartoon or any conceivable host of characters. Note: Comic Book Illustration is not required as a prerequisite for this course but recommended for those who want to first learn the basics or who wish to draw comics without an accompanying storyline.
