Looking for some inspiration when it comes to glazing your pots? Learn a variety of surface decoration and glazing techniques, including etching with (and without) underglazes and batik resist with underglazes. A number of techniques for layering glazes and applying multiple glazes on one piece will also be shown, such as glaze inlay and overlay, and ‘burst’ glazing. Painter’s tape and wax resist will be used to work with the Perkins’ palette of glazes. Please bring several pieces (even test tiles) to try all of these techniques. No shelf space will be provided; this class is designed for those already taking a class at Perkins or those with other shelf space at Perkins. Students should bring: Bisqueware, especially small pieces without texture. One or two pieces of greenware, some bone dry (can be small test slabs). Basic tools, including needle tool, scissors, fettling knife, sponges, brushes, blue painter’s tape, precision decorator or refillable bottles with fine nibs, available at this site: theceramicshop.com/store/product/3240/Precision-Decorator-/
Session 2 will not be a strict repeat of Session 1, so students can sign up for both parts and be shown new techniques.
