This is a course for students interested in discovering and expanding on the fundamentals of oil painting. The focus of this class will be color, space, gesture and producing an engaging composition within a painting. Students will have the ability to paint directly from interesting still life setups. Bring your knick knacks and memorabilia to create your own masterpieces out of various diverse elements. Class will include exercises to loosen up, make mistakes on purpose, and create "happy accidents. Instructor will provide an overview of artists since Picasso who have successfully used collage as an art medium. There will be plenty of time to complete several projects in paper-based collages and built assemblages.
This class is for all skill levels, from beginners to advanced students. Learn how the use of line, mass, curves and contrast are used to realistically demonstrate form, emotions and movement in the human figure and portrait. Students will be taught proportion, planes, structure, volume and basic anatomy. We will be working from a life model to study both the figure and the portrait.

Drawing skills are essential in order to excel in any other 2 & 3 dimensional art media. This course is ideal for artists at the beginning of their creative endeavors and also for those looking to reconnect with their abilities. This class, open to all levels, is designed to instruct the student in the fundamental techniques of drawing. Individual attention will be given to each student so that he or she may develop at his or her own pace. Students will investigate the idea of drawing as a foundation of painting as well as its importance in the making of all art.

Man made and natural items each week so that we all can enjoy and explore together. So pull out those broken, tired, old and strange items-trash picking is encouraged!
This class will help experienced painters widen their understanding of painting process. Topics may include: old master and modern oil techniques; basic earth color and prismatic palettes; direct/ indirect painting; variety of painting mediums; and subtleties with light, shade, texture & transparency. Mr. Bender tailors instruction based on the needs of students and will offer instruction on refining things like drawing, perspective, composition or color while also making the act of painting an enjoyable experience. A clothed model will be available in the Portrait Class. Plein air landscape on the immediate property and still life are also a possibility depending on circumstances.
