Frequently Asked Questions

What types of classes will my child be in at camp?

At Perkins Center Summer Arts Camp, your child will be involved in both visual arts and performance arts classes. Some examples from previous years at Moorestown are: pottery, papermaking, storytelling, theatre and improvisation, painting, African dancing, Salsa dancing, drumming and more.

What types of projects will the children make and what will they learn?

Every summer our camp is based on a theme and this year our theme is Heroes, Myths and Legends. Each teaching-artist approaches the theme in a unique way and the projects and lessons vary from session to session. A few examples of projects and lessons from previous years are:

  • Carnival-inspired dance such as the Merengue and Samba
  • Clay Maracas and Whistles
  • "Funny Folly of Clowns" theater piece
  • "Andy Warhol-style" Ice Cream Paintings
  • Native American Dream-Catchers
  • Clay Velveteen "Wish" Rabbits
  • Painted Postcards based on a "Dream" vacation

All projects and lessons are age appropriate. The campers learn so much: The arts hone problem-solving skills, foster confidence, improve communication skills and cultivate creativity. The teaching-artists are very excited about this year's theme, and they have many treats in store for the campers!

Will I be able to see my child perform or have the opportunity to view my child's work?

Yes! We have a Final Performance, Exhibition, and BBQ on the last day of each camp session and all family and friends are invited! This fun family event starts at 11:00am and wraps up at 12:15am.

Can my child attend multiple sessions?

Yes! Your son or daughter can sign up for as many sessions as you wish. Each session is varied. Even if your son or daughter has the same teaching-artist, that artist will work on a different project or vary the lesson.

How many children will be in a group?

Campers will be broken into 4 groups based on age. There are 18 children (max) per group with one counselor and one counselor-in-training (minimum) as well as the teaching-artist.

Do the children have a break?

Yes! In between classes from 10:20am - 10:40am campers will have a snack and recess/relaxation break. If the weather is nice, the campers usually play soccer, jump rope, play tag or just relax on the huge lawn at Perkins. Drinks, fruit and a snack like animal crackers are provided.

Can my child be in the same group as his/her friend?

Yes, please make that clear upon registering and we can usually accommodate this request.

Is the facility air-conditioned?

At Moorestown, the facility has air conditioning units in each room and pitchers of water with paper cups in each classroom. There is plenty of water and juice everyday for the campers.

My child has special needs, can he/she attend the camp?

Please call Kimberly Bunting, Director of Community Programs at 856-235-6488, ext. 316 to discuss your child's specific needs.
